Description
Discover the green side of Groot-Bijgaarden and its heritage gems. The hike starts at the Wivina Chapel where Saint Wivina settled in the 12th century. A stone's throw from Brussels, you will walk through rolling countryside with beautiful views of the European capital. On the way you pass by Girardin Brewery, Waer Waters - good for 6000 m² of wellness - and the Castle of Groot-Bijgaarden. The castle was built around 1640 in the traditional brick and sandstone style and extensively restored at the beginning of the 20th century with authentic, reused materials. Every spring during Floralia , you can visit the gardens and enjoy the splendor of spring flowers. Further along in the center of Groot-Bijgaarden, you can stop at a terrace with a view of the Pampoel House and St. Egidius Church.
Suitable for all-terrain strollers.
This hike is offered to you by the municipality of Dilbeek.

Wednesday, November 10, 2021 by J.D.this walk is not at all suitable for strollers as indicated in the description , there is a section where it you can't even pass without suitable footwear ( northern section towards the E40, apparently there has been a flooding problem there)

Tuesday, May 11, 2021 by Michel VMNice walk. A little too many narrow roads (not corona proof in those days...) , not suitable for stroller! Too bad the beautiful gardens around the castle were closed.

Sunday, May 2, 2021 by V.D.Some walking paths completely ploughed by the farmer therefore sometimes difficult to walk. Also not really suitable for strollers as described in the info because of sometimes very narrow roads. Nice walk though.

Sunday, May 2, 2021 by An LoosenA few signs were not really visibly placed. So it was a few times of searching and retracing our steps. At one point there is a great view of Brussels, which very much made up for the extra, unplanned kilometers 😌 .
