Icon description route Description

  • Signposted walk: follow the yellow balls of Natuurpunt from parking Hilstraat)
  • This walk is not or hardly accessible for wheelchairs or baby carriages.
  • In wet weather some paths can be swampy!

The Vijverbeek stream loops through the Laak valley, draining a swampy area of "brooks" and "wells". This swampy area is favored by beavers. You're sure to encounter their tracks. You might also notice a pair of swans.

Follow the paths through woods and meadows and stop at 't Schipke. For centuries a crossing over the Laak between Tremelo and Werchter. Even today, this little bridge is still a crossroads of hiking and cycling routes.

The Grote Laak was once an unnavigable branch of the Demer, which split off at
of Aarschot to flow into the Dijle at Ninde.

When the Demer was straightened and the dike was raised in 1974, the Grote Laak no longer received any water. Since then, efforts have been made to make the Laak waterable again. This allows the water to flow again and nature to take its course.
