Description
This hike takes you through the laakvallei, the largest contiguous green area in Tremelo.
- Follow the arrows with blue rectangles of Natuurpunt from parking Hilstraat)
- This walk is not accessible for wheelchairs or baby carriages.
- In wet weather some paths can be swampy.
The Laak is an unnavigable waterway that was used to relieve the Demer during high water levels and to run the water mill at the Veldonkhoeve. Unfortunately, this connection was interrupted in the 1970s. Nature along the Laak will surprise you with a mix of space, nature experience and tranquility.
The green corridor between Demer and Dijle is a contiguous mosaic of grasslands, fields, trouser forests, pollard willows and wood edges. Walkers come there to relax and enjoy a large chunk of nature. The occurrence of species such as blackthorn butterfly, beaver, rattle, meadowsweet... With some luck you will hear the woodpecker or a roe deer crossing your path.

- TIP Combine with the Vijverbeek walk (yellow balls) - This makes a nice walk of about 8 km.
- TIP Combine with the Zegbroek Walk (green triangles). Thus this becomes a nice nature walk of 12.8 km. See Laekdal-Zegbroek walk.

Sunday, October 27, 2024 by P.S.in itself a beautiful route,
but way too swampy.
even with boots quite dangerous.
shoes or boots just get stuck in the mud. also many large areas of water.
this route should be reconsidered.

Saturday, January 22, 2022 by W.P.Very nice hike, definitely combinable with some (limited) shopping in Tremelo. What I do want to mention even more clearly than the previous review: this hike is (Jan 2022) IMPOSSIBLE without boots. I thought it would work with good hiking boots, but some paths are completely under water (without being able to go around). At least 10 cm deep.

Tuesday, January 26, 2021 by R.S.Beautiful hike in summer period. We did them in late January and then definitely not recommended because of very much mud, not doable without boots.

Wednesday, December 16, 2020 by V.T.From downtown Tremelo you walk straight into nature. Surprisingly beautiful walk. Along the way you can search along the Laak for traces of an active beaver family.
