Description
You start at the Sint-Lambertus church in Nieuwrode. For centuries pilgrims walked along the St. James' Way to the St. Martin's Church in Wezemaal to worship St. James, one of the plague saints. You continue walking along varied shrub and tree vegetation, past vineyards, forests and through hollow roads over Hageland Hills with beautiful views. Along the way, discover many beautiful typical buildings such as the Heilige Geestmolen, a 16th century water mill on the small river Winge. Afterwards, head toward the historic Castle of Horst, which you may recognize as the home of Willy Vandersteen's cartoon character The Red Knight. This mighty moated castle lies in the green valley of the Winge brook. The Wagenhuis houses a visitor center with heritage store and a cozy regional guesthouse.
This walk is offered by Tourism Flemish Brabant.

Thursday, September 17, 2020 by Guy Van dammeA varied and beautiful walk in the hilly Hageland landscape with magnificent views. The vicarage of Rode, a 17th century stately vicarage with moat and the Castle of Horst are highlights.
We thoroughly enjoyed this walk with a wonderful stop at the Wagenhuis to quench our thirst.
