Description
Not afraid of a little wetness? Then this hike is for you. From the center of Wilsele-Putkapel (Leuven) you walk to nature reserve De Gevel, just across the border with Rotselaar. Originally the area was called Gever, derived from the Germanic 'gabra', meaning swamp. It was formed in an old meander of the Dijle River. The reed beds and surrounding wet forests provide a rich bird habitat. Among others, the great egret, the golden oriole and the wood warbler are regular guests.

Sunday, April 28, 2024 by Y.V.The stretch through the Gable Forest is beautiful despite the muddy ground, boots are needed. The approach to the forest, which makes up half of the hike, is along a busy bicycle highway and streets without sidewalk. You will therefore have to deal with 10 or so recreational cyclists, as well as many cycling enthusiasts on their road bikes.
