Description
This beautiful hike begins in the center of Kanne. You quickly leave this charming little village and cross the border with the Netherlands. You encounter the first (closed) marl cave - the Devil's Cave. On a nice day, this area in terms of beauty and vistas is not inferior to a region like Tuscany in Italy.
You regularly encounter climbs during this walk, but this is always rewarded: when you enter the ENCI quarry at the Saint Peter's Mountain, you seem to end up in another world. Until 2018, this was a huge limestone quarry. The azure blue water in the middle of the quarry provides a beautiful contrast with the surrounding limestone formations. A bit later, a spectacular staircase more than 40 meters high takes you to a viewing platform that offers a view - absolutely not to be missed - of this unique area.
The route then winds further to the Eye of Saint Peter. There, you are treated to a breathtaking view of the Maastricht skyline. The route continues along beautiful, small roads until you arrive at Neercanne Castle, a 17th-century baroque castle. A bit later, you return to Kanne, where the many hospitality establishments offer you the opportunity to quietly enjoy this walk.
With thanks to Peter Wils.
Friday, February 16, 2024 by J.J.Very pleasant trail that is mostly on unpaved but easily passable paths. Very beautiful, varied and rolling landscape. The open mine though only beautiful in blue skies. The galleries at St. Peter's Mountain are quite impressive. CAUTION : through the open mine only accessible between 07h and 19h, and NOT ACCESSIBLE FOR DOGS !!!

Friday, June 30, 2023 by Peter WilsThis hike is a real adventure. From the almost most beautiful village of Flanders (2nd place), it goes back in time. We walk as it were on the bottom of the sea that once was here. And a little later we are in the midst of vineyards. Then you walk around a fort and through the domain of a castle. Really worthwhile !!!
