Description
The hike begins on the former railway line L47 (today part of the beautiful Ravel network of hiking trails and cycle paths), a relic from the times when Burg-Reuland was directly connected to Berlin. We follow the Our, the only river in Belgium that flows from north to south. On the opposite bank is Steffeshausen. Shining in white, the facades contrast the azure blue sky. Nothing clouds the pure, clean air, in which we walk up to the top of the hill to be able to enjoy the view to the full.
Before the banks of the Irmisch come into view, the panorama narrows. Down in the flood plains and marshes, waders such as the grey heron are at home. On the bank of the Our, we pick a new route up the hill. Enveloped in the perfume of the flowers that grow in these meadows and fields, we reach the crest of the hill where, as if out of nowhere, a hikers' refuge hut unexpectedly appears. At the end we descend rapidly and steeply to Burg-Reuland.
