Description
In the past, gold deposits gave the river its charm. Today it's the landscapes.
At Montenau, the Amblève disappears into the so-called Wolfsbusch, a fir and beech wood. Protected by the treetops, we reach the river, which carves its way through the Ardennes massif. Seen from above, the banks of the Amel communicate an almost perfect image of silence and serenity.
Via a timber bridge and some wooden footpaths, the route leads to Thirimont, a hamlet in the middle of a green oasis. Again we cross a bridge and discover traces of former gold-digging activities and long buried dreams of getting rich overnight. In the silence, you can hear the murmur of the Amblève. The call of a cuckoo rings out in the distance. Two buzzards circle overhead. In Montenau nature leaves nothing to be desired.
