Description
With the Palm brewery and the 'Diepensteyn' castle estate - where the Brabant draught horse is bred - as central points, this route takes you through the valley of the Grote Molenbeek. From its source in Zellik, to where it crosses the border with the province of Antwerp, this brook scours a wide valley in the middle of the couters, right through a beautiful piece of Green Belt, covered with tender meadows and fertile fields. Castle Drietoren, the Groenhof, the Herbodinnemolen and the Heidemolen lie along your path.
Diepensteyn Castle is near node 61. The moated castle was once the seat of a medieval seigniory. Palm Brewery restored the castle, garden park and ponds to their original state. In the meadow around the castle trot proud Brabant draught horses.
This cycle route is offered by Tourism Flemish Brabant.

Sunday, September 24, 2023 by H.V."Diepensteyn route" but the castle is not on the trail, though close to knp 61 (street ahead). Apparently the route was modified a bit anyway (see earlier reviews); knp 26 is no longer included. Several roads have been renewed, no more unpaved parts. Rather quiet roads, although a large part through residential areas.

Sunday, April 18, 2021 by Sanders Jan2/3rds of this route is in bad shape, there are works in progress but this is only a small stretch which normally gets better again. also you cycle a lot along ordinary traffic roads. There is a nicer part through the forest but unfortunately no castle seen.

Monday, July 20, 2020 by B.D.The section on the A12 does not add any value, on the contrary. Notwithstanding the name of the route, the castle Diepensteyn is not visited, you just don't pass it. Very nice route and beautiful peaceful quiet landscape along Imde, Londerzeel, Steenhuffel.... . Park your car at the church of Malderen and cycle to node 23.

Monday, June 22, 2020 by Jan PandelaersYou cycle through beautiful spots, but too fragmented and gray. Especially the first 10 (of the 30) km were disappointing (between nodes 23 and a bit past 26 you cycle mostly through parcels of land). Afterwards it becomes greener and more open.

Wednesday, August 10, 2016 by P.G.Beautiful route with lots of variety. You do have to cross the busy A12 (traffic lights ). Sometimes unpaved parts (especially in Imde very swampy after rainy weather), this makes it less suitable for road bikes.

Wednesday, April 27, 2016 by A.D.This road is very cool. Too bad we cycle a lot on the street but for the rest this road is quiet and you can enjoy the surroundings.
