To the northernmost point of the Maasduinen

Description

This bike tour starts at junction 54, near the Vierlingsbeek station, and heads towards junction 39.

Here we turn right towards Groeningen and Vortum-Mullem to reach the Maas River, where we take the ferry. We continue cycling between fields and along the forest edge to the market square of Gennep with its 17th-century town hall.

We return to junction 51 and ride over a piece of the German Railway, and then through the Bergerbos, the northernmost point of De Maasduinen. Crisscrossing through the beautiful nature of this National Park, we reach Afferden, where we pass the Mariakapel. A little further on, we arrive at the ruins of Bleyenbeek Castle, which was bombed by the RAF in 1945.

We cycle further to Eckeltse Bergen to reach De Groote Muijs via a beautiful gravel path through woods and along heath and dunes, and then the lock that provides the connection between the Leukermeer and the Reindersmeer.

Our journey then goes along the marina to Oud Bergen, where we take the ferry to ride back to the starting point.
