Description
Discover the oasis of green and water during this unique 28km bicycle route in the Almere area. Your tour starts at the Lepelaarsplassen, a bird paradise and nature reserve of 500 ha at the Markermeer. If you are lucky, you can even spot sea eagles here.
Continue cycling along the dike until you pass the wind turbines. Having reached junction 28, you cycle towards the center of Almere. Among other things, you pass the Beatrixpark, a versatile city park that combines art, nature and recreation. Here you can enjoy vast grasslands as well as works of art.
Not long after the Beatrixpark, the Hannie Schaftpark looms up. This park, named after the resistance heroine, offers wooded areas as well as open spaces where, with some luck, you can see the pinks (1-year-old cattle) of the Stadsboerderij on De Kemphaan grazing. Following this, you will discover the Leeghwaterplas, an idyllic wetland where nature and namesake Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater's heritage come together. It is a perfect place for a break by the water and to admire the local flora and fauna.
With these varied elements of city parks, historical stories and natural beauty, this route offers an enrichment for any cycling enthusiast.
