Icon description route Description

In early 2021, Jesse Feyaerts, a history student at KU Leuven and a resident of Keerbergen, put together this bicycle route with Transport during WWII as a common thread.
The region is home to many stand-alone monuments about our wartime past. Logistics was also a relevant and defining factor during World War II. Get acquainted with this past through this bicycle route.

You start at the old airfield in Keerbergen, today's Meer, and cycle to the Old Hans Bridge, the Antitank Canal and then along the XXth Train Convoy. You cycle on to Mechelen and barracks Dossin. From here you cycle on to The Fort in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. Afterwards, you also cycle past the Sint-Ursula Institute before cycling back towards Keerbergen and the old airfield. All these stops played an important role in the logistics between 1940 and 1945. A lot of people traveled to these locations, transported materials from here, or were strategic defense places to stop the German advance.
This cycling route also takes you right through the green landscape of the Dijle valley, among others.

If you do the tour in 1 day, including seeing all the historical monuments, you should allow 4 hours for this.
Discover which transports took place in Jesse Feyaerts' native region during the Second World War.
Choose a nice day and enjoy this bicycle tour!
