Description
Once you leave Wolvertem behind, you climb the Fluxenberg, where you enjoy a breathtaking panorama of Brussels. This route takes you past the Forest Chapel in Imde, the Plantentuin Meise and picturesque villages such as Oppem and Meuzegem. In the Botanical Garden, you can discover something different in every season. So definitely worth a stop.
Eddy Merckx's bicycle factory is no longer located in Sint-Brixius-Rode, but Eddy still lives there. Who knows, you might run into him on his bike in this quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Brussels.
The route is not suitable for road bikes because of some unpaved sections.
This route is offered by Tourism Flemish Brabant.

Monday, September 2, 2024 by G.M.This is a bike route to travel by city bike or mtb. There are narrow trails and gravel. You also ride through forests etc... Still a nice route, but not to do with a racing or recumbent bike. Not even after a firm rain shower. Some roads will be slippery then.

Friday, August 14, 2020 by Nicolas RuytenbeekVery nice route, very pleasant and quiet outside traffic, tough slopes. Highly recommended. I read that this route would not be suitable for cyclists or touring bikes. I disagree. I make it 1-2 times a month with my Trek Domane, I've only gone flat once (too little tire pressure). PB: 1h07'30'' (35.7km).

Thursday, May 10, 2018 by P.D.I rode this route last month and thought the comments about "not suitable for road cyclists" were a bit exaggerated. But unfortunately, I also found that this route is not suitable for a racing bike. It starts very nicely and there are really nice parts to the route, but this is more for a mountain bike anyway. I would not recommend it for people with a race bike.
I also made a video with a short review and images of this route.

Sunday, April 22, 2018 by D.V.This route is only suitable for a family ride certainly not for cycling tourists. I dropped out after the umpteenth bad road I had to take. I even think that only an MTB can finish this ride without a flat. Not worthy of the name Eddy Merckx.

Sunday, November 19, 2017 by V.K.Although the route contains beautiful sections and some tough climbs, this is not a route for road bikes. Several times on narrow roads through fields, unpaved strips,.... Especially when the weather is not so good, this takes away a lot from the cycling experience. Very unfortunate, you would not expect this from a route that bears the name 'Eddy Merckx'.

Thursday, July 28, 2016 by L.L.Beautiful cycling route of our municipal cycling legend E. Merckx. A route of about 38km with an extension (as desired) via the 350 year old Boskapel of Imde. A route where there is something to see but also the spicy calves bite, especially in the first 18km you have to get straight on the pedals a few times, or on foot. If there are any problems you can always let me know. I have the sponsorship of this route and try to keep it up nicely. Good luck
